Democratic congressional candidate says legal experience will deliver results as voters seek change
WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - 26 years after her first political run, which she lost, Democrat Ginger Murray is giving it another go.
This time for Congress.
After a debate in 2000 for the state assembly, someone tried to run her off the road. Her husband told the longtime lawyer no more politics until the kids are grown and out of the house.
That time is now.
“I think that with 30 years of being an advocate for clients as a lawyer, that I am able to bring to the district someone who’s focused on figuring out what the client needs and getting results,” Murray said. “I think that we have a lot of politicians who have perfect answers and no results. And so I’m looking to join the folks who are in Congress to try and help get us to the results that are needed for our district.”
The 7th Congressional District has not been held by a Democrat since Dave Obey in 2010. Murray thinks the Democrats can flip the seat this time.
“It’s a midterm. And right now, folks, whether Republican or Democrat, there’s a lot that they’re not happy with,” she said. “And so I think they’re looking for a change. I think they’re looking for someone that does something different than make promises and stand on those political theatrics. And so I think, especially, you know, perhaps Mr. (Tom) Tiffany has had a lot going on in his life and what he’s been doing, but it hasn’t been in the district. And so even folks that are loyal to Republicans feel a bit disenfranchised and a little bit abandoned.”
Murray is running in the August 11 Democratic primary against Fred Clark and Chris Armstrong.
